China – A Concise History

Two topics… Firstly;

A look at modern day Beijing through the eyes of an expat resident who has loved living there for the last two and a half years.

Secondly;

An Essential Concise History of China – A Three Thousand Year discourse from the last of the pre-Imperial Dynasties to the present day. Gleaned largely from Wikipedia but also from many other sources then massively edited, shortened, added to and simplified to make readable in the hope that, having absorbed it, visitors to China will have some basic knowledge of the history of the country including the progression of the Dynasties and their relevance, through to the forming of the Republic of China under Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the Civil War between the Kuomintang and the Communists (paused during the Japanese occupation),?Chairman Mao Zedong and his?”Great Leap Forward”?and it’s dreadful aftermath, the?Cultural Revolution with its frightening consequences, the?formation of ?”The Peoples Republic of China” on the mainland in response to the former title being expropriated to ?the ex-province-but-currently-separate-nation of Taiwan (which still calls itself “The Republic of China”!) and the ?subsequent and on-going evolution into the current, Government-controlled, capitalist-orientated, single-party Communist-State that now towers on the World stage.
