China – A Concise History

Two topics… Firstly;

A look at modern day Beijing through the eyes of a former expat resident who loved living there between 2009 and 2012.

An Essential Concise History of China – A Three Thousand Year discourse from the last of the pre-Imperial Dynasties to the present day. Gleaned somewhat from Wikipedia but also from many other sources, then edited, and simplified to make it readable in the hope that visitors to China will have some basic knowledge of the history of the country including the progression of the Dynasties and their relevance, through to the forming of the Republic of China under Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the Civil War between the Kuomintang and the Communists (paused during the Japanese occupation), Chairman Mao Zedong and his “Great Leap Forward” and it’s dreadful aftermath, the Cultural Revolution with its frightening consequences, the formation of “The Peoples Republic of China” on the mainland in response to the earlier title being expropriated to the ex-province, Taiwan, which still calls itself “The Republic of China”! and the subsequent and on-going evolution into the current, Government-controlled, capitalist-orientated, single-party Communist-State that now towers on the World stage.
